Gizzi Selected As ECAC DIII South Goalie Of The Month

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 5, 2019) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its monthly award winners for women's lacrosse on Thursday and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) was selected as the ECAC DIII South Goalie of the Month for March. The honor comes after she helped lead the Mariners to a perfect 7-0 record throughout the opening month of the season. 

Gizzi earned all seven victories between the pipes for USMMA, while posting an impressive 4.60 goals against average and .544 save percentage, making a total of 37 saves in over 400 minutes of action throughout March.

The senior currently ranks first in the nation among all DIII goalies with a 4.52 goals against average and is fifth in the country with a .578 save percentage. 

As a team, the Mariners rank in the top-35 in the nation in seven categories listed below. 

  • Tied for first with just six other teams with a perfect 1.000 win percentage.
  • Third in scoring defense, allowing just 4.38 goals per game
  • Third with a 578 save percentage
  • Fourth with a +10.88 scoring margin
  • 28th with 15.88 turnovers per game
  • 32nd with a .496 shot percentage
  • and 34th in scoring offense, producing 15.25 goals per game
