FLUSHING, N.Y. (April 22, 2018) – On Sunday, the USMMA tennis team lost its regular season-finale to Skyline opponent Yeshiva, 7-2, at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 9-6 (6-1 Skyline), while the Maccabees improve to 11-5 (7-0 Skyline).
Yeshiva led 2-1 after doubles action, taking an 8-5 decision at #1 and an 8-6 finish at #3. The lone Merchant Marine win came from senior Jake McDonough (Wilmington, N.C.) and junior Daniel Zakrevski (Forest Hills, N.Y.) at #2, who defeated their opponents, 8-5.
In singles, freshman Barry Booth (Spanish Fort, Ala.) picked up the only point for the Mariners with his 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph at #3. Two other matches went the distance, but it was the Macs that won both at #2 and at #4.

The Mariners have clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament and will host #3 seed Mount St. Mary in the semifinals this Wednesday, April 25. More information on the meet will be available early this week.
