WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 26, 2015) – On Sunday, the USMMA men's lacrosse team played its final game of the 2015 season at Landmark opponent Washington & Jefferson and defeated the Presidents, 16-3, at Wash & Jeff's Alexandre Stadium. The Mariners end the year with an even 7-7 record, including a 3-4 mark in league play, while the Presidents fall to 8-8 (1-6 Landmark).
Freshman Pat Coll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had a career day with eight points on six goals and two assists, while classmate Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) and senior Geoff Harty (Chicago, Ill.) both scored twice and added one assist each in the victory. Four other Mariners picked up two points apiece – junior Ethan Medler (Kingwood, Texas) had two goals, junior Rob Tirrito (Centerport, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist and seniors Ian Motley (Ossining, N.Y.) and Ray Waters (Sayville, N.Y.) both tallied two assists each.
Also finding the back of the net in the win were junior Stephen Magretti (Tappan, N.Y.), senior Troy Smith (Deer Park, Texas) and freshman Grier Wakefield (Wilmington, Del.). Freshmen Tucker Dodson (Charleston, S.C.) and Frank Walter (Mount Prospect, Ill.) both chipped in with an assist apiece.
The Mariners dominated in the faceoff-X, going 16-for-22, led by Wakefield, who was 10-for-14. Junior Gus Sawicki (Louisville, Colo.) was also 5-for-6 in draws. Senior goalie Alex Peyreigne (Weston, Conn.) made 11 saves in just under 55 minutes of play and also picked up a team-high six groundballs. Junior Kevin Young (Springfield, Va.) came in for the final five minutes and made one save.
For Washington & Jefferson, senior John Bursch led the way with a goal and an assist. Junior Zachary Fredericks and sophomore Kyle Heinig also found the back of the net for the Presidents. In goal, junior Jacob Succop made 20 saves in the losing effort. Senior Chase Bennett led all players in the game with seven groundballs and three caused turnovers.
