Barnes Earns Skyline Rookie Of The Week Honors For Final Week Of The Regular Season

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2018) – The Skyline Conference announced on Tuesday that USMMA freshman Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) was selected as the league's Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18. This is the second time this season that Barnes has earned this accolade, as he also recognized as the Skyline ROW back on Jan. 2.

Barnes led Merchant Marine with 12.5 points per game over two of the Mariners' three contests last week – road losses at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Thursday, 70-58, and at Old Westbury on Saturday, 72-68. He scored a team-best 16 points on .700 shooting (7-for-10) on Thursday night and then followed that up with nine points on Saturday.

Barnes is one of five USMMA players that ranks in the top-10 in the Skyline Conference in a statistical category as his 1.5 steals per game are tied for eighth among all players in the league.

Below are the rest of the Mariners ranked in the top-10 in the Skyline.

  • Junior David Washington (Frisco, Texas) is sixth in the conference with 9.3 rebounds per game, while he is also tied for third in both blocks (1.3 per game) and steals (1.9 per game).
  • Sophomore Eric Sobocinski (Southampton, N.J.) ranks second in the league with a .397 three-point shooting percentage, while his 2.7 three-pointers per game are good for fourth.
  • Classmate Connor Green (Flower Mound, Texas) is tied for fifth in the Skyline with 3.5 assists per game and his 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio is seventh-best.
