KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 5, 2019) – On Thursday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference announced that USMMA senior Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) was chosen as the league's DIII Metro Pitcher of the Month for the month of March. The praise comes after his performances on the mound for the Mariners during the opening month of the season.
Spinnenweber appeared in five games and started four for USMMA, earning a 3-0 record with one complete game. He pitched to an extraordinary 1.29 ERA, allowing just four earned runs on 15 hits with a team-best 43 strikeouts over 28 innings pitched. Opposing batters hit just .156 against the righty during the month.

Through games played on April 2, Spinnenweber currently ranks among the top-25 among all pitchers in the country in three different categories, as he is 12th with 0.79 walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP), 17th with 13.82 strikeouts per nine innings and 23rd with just 4.82 hits allowed per nine innings.
Also among the national leaders is fellow senior Kyle Cunningham (Panama City Beach, Fla.), whose five saves rank ninth in the country, and sophomore Joe Raab (Edwardsburg, Mich.), whose 13.84 strikeouts per nine innings rank 16th.
As a team, the Mariners rank in the top-30 in the nation (through April 2) in eight categories listed below.
- Fourth with 17 triples and 0.77 triples per game
- 11th with 9.8 strikeouts per game
- 18th with a .337 team batting average
- 19th with 60 stolen bases
- 21st with a .431 on-base percentage
- 23rd with 2.73 stolen bases per game
- and 29th with a 3.36 team earned run average
The Mariners return to the diamond tomorrow, Saturday, April 6, for a Skyline doubleheader on the road at Purchase College.
