Four Mariners Honored In Skyline’s First Weekly Report

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2019) – On Tuesday, the Skyline Conference announced the weekly reports for the opening week of the season and USMMA had four student-athletes receive praise for their performances this past weekend. 

Sophomore Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M.) was named the Skyline Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Pittman won the men's 6K with a time of 20:35.3 to help the Mariners to a first-place team finish at the St. Joe's Friends & Alumni Meet on Friday. Freshman Sayra Raya (Wasco, Calif.) earned Skyline Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. Raya won the first race of her collegiate career when she crossed first in the women's 4K in 15:51.1 to help the Mariners' to a team victory at the SJC Friends & Alumni Meet. Both the men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they compete in the New York Tech Invitational hosted by nearby NYIT. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m., while the women's 5K race is scheduled for 11 a.m. 

Two other Mariners were named to the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll for their respective sports – senior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) for men's soccer and sophomore outside hitter Shelby Bowman (Redmond, Wash.) for women's volleyball. 

Milner produced a clean sheet in the Mariners' 2-0 season-opening road victory over John Jay on Saturday afternoon. He made a total of five saves on the day, including four in the opening half. Bowman put down 12 kills to lead all players in the Mariners' three-set victory over visiting Lehman College on Friday. She hit at a .421 clip on the night (12 kills-4 errors/19 total attempts).
